I always prioritize time here for portraits because the architecture adds a visual weight to the images that feels timeless.
The garden spaces. Lush, organic, and beautifully maintained. The gardens offer a softness that balances the clean lines of the architecture and creates a natural, romantic portrait setting that works at any time of day.
The ceremony lawn overlooking the ocean. The view from the ceremony lawn is reason enough to choose this venue. Wide, open, and looking out over the water with the San Juan Island landscape surrounding it. Couple portraits here at golden hour are among the most beautiful images I have made at any Washington venue.
A commitment to Sustainability
Saltwater Farm is also a venue with a commitment to sustainability that goes well beyond what most properties in the wedding industry even attempt. The 5,000 square foot event barn runs on solar power, one of 147 panels on the property that collectively produce more energy than the entire venue uses in a year. The water system draws directly from and returns to the island's bedrock aquifer, creating a closed, renewable loop with almost no waste. Nearly all of the wood throughout the property, from the farm tables to the siding, came from trees on the land itself, harvested thoughtfully in consultation with forestry experts and used to build what you see today.
The linens at the Inn are 100% organic, fair trade, and made by Coyuchi. The bath products are eco-friendly, cruelty-free, and produced right here in Washington by Alaffia. All landscaping is maintained with only organic methods. On-site composting and recycling are both available and encouraged. The property was also designed with responsible land stewardship at its core, with wetlands, farming, and forestry all managed in consultation with environmental experts.
