Their shoot took place in the Superstition Mountains, specifically at Lost Dutchman State Park. Located just 45 minutes from Phoenix and Scottsdale, this perfect backdrop combines dramatic desert scenery with a peaceful atmosphere.
Date & Time
We scheduled this session in mid-January at 5 PM, just in time to catch the golden light before sunset. The soft, warm glow created the most magical setting, and even though it was a bit chilly for the bride, the end result was well worth it. If you're planning your elopement during the summer months, keep in mind that temperatures can soar, so an early morning or sunset ceremony is your best bet.

If you're eloping at Lost Dutchman State Park, parking is simple but requires a little planning. We parked in the Saguaro Day Use Lot, which is just past the Cholla Day Use Lot. There is a restroom nearby, and it serves as a great central location for exploring the park. Keep in mind that this national park has a $10 day-use fee, so be sure to bring cash or a card.

We started the shoot in a shaded gully area, where the stunning landscapes of the Superstition Mountains framed the couple beautifully. Then, as the light shifted, we moved to a flat area to capture golden hour portraits. The real magic happened when we positioned them for backlit shots about 15 minutes before sunset—the results were breathtaking. Finally, as the sun dipped below the horizon, we wrapped up with intimate vow shots. On the way back to the car, we took some fun, candid moments that truly reflected their love and excitement.
